Concrete Sealing That Protects Against Ohio Winters

Unsealed concrete absorbs water, and water that gets into concrete and then freezes is what causes the pitting, flaking, and surface cracking known as spalling — a slow but real problem for any Northwest Ohio driveway that goes through a full winter of freeze-thaw cycles and road salt tracked in from the street.

A quality penetrating or film-forming sealer closes off that porosity, so water, salt, and oil sit on top of the surface instead of soaking in. It also makes routine cleaning easier going forward, since stains have a much harder time setting into sealed concrete than bare concrete.

Sealing only holds up as long as the surface prep behind it, which is why we always clean and fully dry concrete before sealing — sealing over existing grime or trapped moisture just locks the problem in instead of protecting against it.
